The collection documents the work of the Presbyterian Church of England Foreign Missions Committee and the Women's Missionary Association in China, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and India. Included are correspondence, minutes and reports from the years 1847-1950. Special subjects include opium trade, coolie trade, treaties and life in the Treaty Ports, Japanese colonialism in Taiwan, Chinese Nationalism in the 1920s and the Sino-Japanese War.

When the Presbyterian Church of England was reconstituted as a Synod in 1843, the first steps taken included the formation of a Foreign Missions Committee and the sending out of its first missionary to China in 1847. The largest part of the Mission was in China, its work concentrated in South Fujian, East Guangdong and Taiwan. The Mission's work extended to Singapore and Malaysia in 1881.
